Our talented and dedicated senior data analyst, Chris Kelly, explains what it's like to be on the other side of the energy monitoring interface working for Cura Energy...

Tell me a bit about yourself and your role at Cura.

My name is Chris Kelly, I’m the Senior Data Analyst at Cura Energy. My role covers not only data analysis but also project coordination, technical support and client liaison.

Outside of work I enjoy long walks, hunting through second-hand bookshops and reading Italian crime novels.

How did you get into the industry?

I previously worked in energy cost analysis, helping clients reduce their energy expenditure and identifying opportunities for energy and water saving. Joining Cura Energy allowed me to focus on energy monitoring so that clients can understand how and where they are using energy, which is the first step to identifying how to reduce energy consumption. Without accurate energy monitoring, the task of reducing energy use and evaluating the results of efficiency measures is a tough one.

What does a day at work look like for you?

I am based at the Cura Energy office near Kemsing in Kent, but throughout a typical day I will be in touch with the Cura Energy engineers working out on site, keeping our clients up to date with progress, as well as reviewing energy data to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the client’s submeter data.

What’s your favourite part about your job?

Seeing a project completed and being able to provide the client with visibility of their energy data is particularly rewarding, especially when we are able to demonstrate the effectiveness of energy reduction measures – seeing the impact of an energy saving initiative being reflected in the client’s submetering data is always satisfying, both for Cura and of course for the client!

What are some challenging aspects to the role?

Working to tight deadlines is sometimes a challenge, especially when Cura’s works are part of a wider project involving other trades. The key is communication with all parties to ensure that we all work together to deliver for the client.

How long have you been working for Cura Energy?

I joined Cura back in 2013 so I’ve been with the company for 10 years now, but it seems to have flown by!

What is it about Cura that has made you so committed?

It’s been rewarding to be part of a company that has grown and developed over the last ten years, and for me to be able to grow with it. And of course working alongside the friendly and dedicated people here at Cura!

Thank you to our Senior Data Analyst, Chris Kelly for taking part in this mini interview with us.
